The National Service Scheme(NSS) was initiated by the Government of India on the 24th of September, 1969 with the intention of involving the youth in the nation-building process. The major objective of the NSS is to instill the importance of Social Service among the youth. NSS, thus, helps the students in understanding the community in which they live and realise their role so that they can take active participation in the betterment of society as a whole and the overall development of the country.



VELAGAPUDI RAMAKRISHNA SIDDHARTHA Engineering College sponsored by Siddhartha Academy of General and Technical Education was established in 1977 as the 1st private self financing engineering college in the state of Andhra Pradesh named after the industrialist and former Indian Civil Service officer Velagapudi Ramakrishna, the College was founded in 1977. Dr. A.V Ratna Prasad is the Principal of the VRSEC. The academy cited is a registered society consisting of 250 philanthropists hailing from various professions, namely Doctors, Charted Accountants, Engineers, etc The college commenced its operations with an annual intake of 180 into 4 branches of engineering (Civil Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering & Mechanical Engineering) and the institution has been growing from strength to strength.



The college unit has a registration of 100 volunteers every year. The unit has been taking an active part in a host of service oriented activities. Blood donation and grouping, Aids awareness and flood relief operations, Traffic regulation management, Clean and Green have been some of the activities of the unit. The college received Gold Medal from the Hon’ble Governor of Andhra Pradesh for the noteworthy contribution to the blood donation activities. The college received a certificate from district authorities for blood donation and NSS activities.
