Design Laboratory

Design Lab provides practical knowledge pertaining to various modes of vibration. Experiments can be performed on pendulums, springs and rotors, covering free and forced vibration, damping, and torsional oscillations. This lab is offered in 7th Semester of B.Tech Mechanical Engineering Program.

The Lab consists of the following major equipment.
• Whirling of shafts apparatus
• Universal vibration apparatus
• Simple and Compound Pendulums
• Motorized Gyroscope

Computer Aided Design Lab

Computer Aided Design lab aims at imparting professional training on modelling of three dimensional engineering components, coding of Mechanical Engineering problems based on Finite Difference approach and also analysis of structural, thermal and fluid flow problems through numerical tools. The laboratory is offered in 3rd and 4th semester of B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) Program and in 1st year for M.Tech (CAD/CAM and Thermal Engineering) Programs.

Software available in the lab:

• Pro-E
• MATLAB
• Python
• ANSYS
• Abacus etc.

Mechatronics Lab

Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary branch of engineering that focuses on Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic systems. Mechatronics laboratory is concerned with providing practical exposure to students regarding various sensors, actuators, digital control techniques typically used in mechatronic systems. The laboratory also offers opportunity to the students to have hands-on learning of PLC programming using modular automation kits. This laboratory is offered in 2nd semester of M.Tech. (CAD/ CAM) Program.

Mechatronics Laboratory has following major equipment:
• LSM controlled Pneumatic actuating system
• PLC controlled Sensor kit

The laboratory uses following Simulation software:
• H- Simulator
• P-Simulator
• PLC Simulator
• Robotic Simulator Software (Robox)
• Mechatronics Simulator Software

Basic Workshop

Basic workshop imparts hands-on-experience related to various trades such as Carpentry, Fitting, Foundry, Welding, Tinsmithy and House wiring. Apart from these, latest emerging technologies such as Internet of things, Electronic circuits and Advanced Manufacturing processes are also provided in this lab. Except Foundry and Fitting, remaining all trades are offered during first year for UG programs. Fitting and Foundry is offered in III semester of B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering) program.

Machine Shop Lab

Machine shop laboratory imparts working knowledge of various machine tools and hands-on practice of machining processes used in the industries for manufacturing various mechanical components. This laboratory is offered in 6th semester of B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) Program.

The laboratory comprises of following Machine tools:

• Universal Radial Drilling Machine
• Slotting Machine
• Planing Machine
• Centreless Grinding Machine

Metrology Lab

The Metrology laboratory provides an active learning environment for the measurement technologies used in the production engineering field. This Laboratory is also equipped with the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) as a research facility. The lab is offered in the 7th semster of B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) program.

The Major equipments in the Metrology lab are:

Computer Aided Manufacturing Lab

Computer Aided Manufacturing Laboratory deals with manufacturing of components using Computer Numerically Controlled Machines. The lab provides an opportunity to learn part programming concepts for operation of CNC machines. The lab is offered in 8th semester of B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) Program and in 1st semester of M.Tech. (CAD/ CAM) Program.

The laboratory is equipped with following hardware and software facilities:
• CNC Lathe
• CNC Milling Machine
• 3D Printing Machine
• Robotic Manipulator
• CNC Simulation Software

Fuels and Models Lab

Fuels and Models Laboratory provides practical insight regarding various fundamental components and assemblies of automobile vehicles. In addition, the laboratory also provides knowledge regarding evaluation of fuel properties and calibration of simple instruments. The lab is offered in 5th Semester of B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) Program.

Following equipments are available in the laboratory:
• Ashok Leyland Truck chassis
• Four-cylinder diesel engine with gear box (Ambassador car Working Model)
• Bomb Calorimeter
• Redwood viscometer I & II
• Junker’s Gas Calorimeter

IC Engines Lab

Internal Combustions Engine laboratory aims at imparting practical knowledge related to the performance, combustion and exhaust properties of Internal Combustion Engines operating with petrol and diesel as fuels. The laboratory is offered in 5th semester of B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) Program and 1st semester of M.Tech (Thermal Engineering) Program.

The Laboratory is equipped with the following major equipment:
• Computerized Single Cylinder 4-Stroke VCR Diesel Engine Test Rig.
• Computerized Multi Cylinder 4-Stroke Petrol Engine Test Rig.
• Multi Fuel Single Cylinder Petrol Engine Test Rig
• Twin Cylinder 4-Stroke Diesel Engine Test Rig
• Air Compressor Test Rig

Heat Transfer Lab

Heat transfer Laboratory provides practical knowledge pertaining to various modes of Heat transfer such as conduction, convection and radiation. The laboratory is offered in 6th semester of B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) program

The equipments available in the laboratory are:
• Natural Convection Apparatus
• Pin Fin Apparatus
• Emissivity Apparatus
• Heat Exchangers
• Forced Convection Apparatus

Advanced Thermal Engineering Lab

Advanced Thermal Engineering laboratory provides facilities to carry out experiments and project works in the areas of Solar Energy, Wind Energy and Fluid Flow. This laboratory is offered in the 1st semester of M.Tech (Thermal Engineering) Program.

The laboratory consists of the following equipments:
• Solar Thermal Training System
• Subsonic Wind Tunnel (300 mm X 300 mm)
• Wind Energy Training System (200 W)
• Experimental Cooling Tower
• Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger
• Vapour Absorption Refrigeration
• Drop-wise and Film-wise Condensation

Innovation Centre

The department has established an Innovation center to encourage students to carry out quality projects as a part of the UG & PG curriculum of Mechanical Engineering students. Innovative projects are displayed in this center to provide encouragement to the students.

Centre of Excellence in Composites

The department has established “Centre of Excellence in Composites” funded by DST-FIST at a cost of Rs.60 Lakhs. The center is equipped with state of art facilities to carry out Mechanical and Thermal Characterization of Composites. PG students, PhD scholars and faculty members from the institute and other colleges in the region are using the available facilities for their research work. The research outcomes are being disseminated through patent applications and publication of research papers in reputed journals.

3D Printing Laboratory

3D Printing/Additive Manufacturing is an Emerging technology; Where the Manufacturing a product is much faster than all conventional manufacturing technologies. Many manufacturing Industries use various 3D Printing technologies in various applications such as in Automobile, Aerospace, Defence and in Bio- medical applications etc. The lab is aimed at giving exposure and on hand experience in the field of Additive Manufacturing / 3D Printing.
