Faculty Development Programme on
“Recent Advances in Additive manufacturing”
18th October, 2014

About the Programme:

The Program has been designed to introduce the subject Additive Manufacturing (AM), also named as Rapid Prototyping (RP), which is an important manufacturing process. Components with complex and intricate shapes can be manufactured with less time with AM process. This process is being adopted successfully to produce prototypes in Aerospace technology, Aircrafts, Defense, ships, automobiles, medical etc. fields. Tests will be conducted by the design Engineers in the Laboratories with wind tunnels, artificial creation of waves in ponds, and the behaviour of aircrafts and ships will assessed in the minimum possible time, so that modifications can be implemented. The prime advantage is that the lead time from design to the manufacturing of the components is drastically reduced, so that the product can be introduced into the market, thereby the profits will be enhanced for the companies.

In the present program, various techniques and methods of Additive Manufacturing will be discussed. The method of creation of CAD model on the computer system, working process of the Fused Deposition Machine, and practical case studies of manufacturing of Turbine Rotor Shaft and Turbine Blades will be discussed in detail in this program. This will benefit the faculty members to pursue research in the area of Additive Manufacturing.
